DOB: 4/16/63

Favorite place to skate? A nice hill right next to my house, nice on the carveboard (see pic).

Best place you have ever skated? Apple Skatepark in Columbus, Ohio (not a kink in any pool...it's the park you have dreamed of...that no longer exists)

Career skating highlights: Sponsored in the seventies...back when skating was seen as an odd and somewhat deviant sport. Jay Boy was THE man then.

Furthest you have traveled to skate? To Cherry Hill Skatepark near Philly, back in the day.

Street or vert? In my heyday it was all vert. Halfpipes (no flat spot) and pools. That said, I now love my little Stinger, a 28" lit tle fishy skate...makes me feel like I'm Larry Bertleman.

Shoes? Vans. Era. I've worn Vans for most of my life.

Best Wipeout? Took a header off a frontside air, scraped my face down the concrete wall, popped my braces through my lip...lot's of blood.

What makes your style unique? The fact that i am 44 years old. Every gray hair at a park has a unique style...the word kook comes to mind. It's funny to explain 80's moves to ten year old kids...lot's is lost in translation.

Describe your favorite board: 5'8" Twinzer (Surfboard)...because I can skate it better than my Beer City pool board...and it hurts less when I fall.

What else do you do? I work at Surfrider because I believe deeply in their mission. I volunteer at our church with a surf ministry because I believe in connecting with high schoolers who want to surf as much as I do.

Skater you admire most? Christian Hosoi. He did more for skating than anyone (Rodney Mullen may be #2 with the highly technical nature of his flip tricks). Christian, however, did it all with a sick amount of style. He just...flowed. If that's not enought, he did time for a drug offense and...in my opinion...THEN really became a notable figure due to his conversion to Christianity in Prison. Christian Hosoi is more punk rock now than anyone in the skate scene; he went from a skater to a druggie to an inmate to a Christian. I love that transition.

What makes your life so great? Um...I still skate (broken wrist at the moment to prove it) and I surf more than most. On top of that I have a great family and faith in God. Ain't life grand?

How do you Reduce, Reuse, and Reride? I will NEVER use another plastic water bottle as they are absolutely horrible on the environment. I telecommute as much as possible; I'd rather Skype than drive for a meeting. i also try to buy as much organic as possible.

Anyone you want to plug? JC. There isn't a figure in history that has changed the world as much as he did. For me, that's a whole-lotta street cred.
