Lisa CarpenterName: Lisa Carpenter DOB: 5-11-1977 Hometown: San Diego Why are you giving up your car from April 10th to May 10th? For those of you who have seen my car, you know it is not a huge sacrifice! In all seriousness, I feel we all have to start doing more than we are doing to start dealing with a growing crisis of climate change. I want to take a month and find out what the biggest challenges are of giving up a car, and what the implications are on a social and physical level. Do you have any big concerns about not having a car? Of course! What if I need to buy cat litter...what if I miss the bus...what if I get a flat on my bike?
What do you hope to accomplish? I hope to meet and interview other people who ride public transportation or their bikes everyday and find out why and what types of lifestyle changes they had to make. Also, I hope to discover that giving up a car is not the end of the world! Can others participate in "Support the Ride?" Yes! First, we are encouraging anyone willing to give up their car for a day, a week, or for the entire month to let us know about it! Visit our blog at inconvenientmonth.blogspot.com to let us know about your progress. Also, we are accepting donations of any size for anyone who would like to sponsor a day in the month of April to support the cause in our Rerip.com Shop. Where will the donations go? All donations will go directly to this years Future of Surfing Event. Last year, we raised over $3,000 for the San Diego Center for Children and distributed over 60 Biofoam surf blanks. It was a great event with music, activities for the kids, and participation of some great organizations like the SD Surfrider Foundation, Homeblown US, and many more! Why did you decide to call the April campaign "Support the Ride?" Because that is what we are doing...promoting and supporting riding instead of driving whenever possible. In the big picture, we are also supporting the ride in terms of the future of our oceans and mountains. Actually, I wanted to call our campaign "Tour de Tree Hugger" but Meghan would not let me.
